Our story
Manawagonish Road has always been a living street — schoolbags on porches, harbour light on the drive home, neighbours who still lift a hand from the sidewalk. For years, too many of those neighbours waited. They waited for a family doctor. They waited through a lunch hour they did not have. They waited until a small worry became a long night in the emergency department.
Westside Medical Clinic was born from a simple, stubborn tenderness: the west side of Saint John deserved a place that stayed. A place that kept the lights on after the last shift, that opened the door on Saturday morning, that remembered a grandmother’s blood pressure and a grandson’s asthma in the same chart, with the same voice, year after year.
“We did not want a waiting room that forgot you. We wanted a practice that could tell your family’s story back to you.”
The physicians who opened these doors grew up watching the people they loved be hurried through care. They chose this road because this is where life actually happens — grocery runs, rink bag drop-offs, quiet cups of tea after a hard week. Westside was never meant to be a building you visit once. It was meant to be a relationship you keep.
How we practise
Westside Medical Clinic is a privately owned and independently operated medical clinic. We are not a hospital department, and we are not a revolving walk-in counter. We are a family medicine home: physicians and clinical staff who follow you over time, who know what last winter’s cough turned into, and who plan the next decade with you — not just the next fifteen minutes.
Family medicine is the heart of everything we do. If you are looking for a family doctor in Saint John — including Saint John West, Lancaster, Fairville, Lorneville, and Grand Bay–Westfield — this is a medical home for infants, school-age children, new parents, working adults, and elders. Preventive care, chronic conditions, mental health, women’s and men’s health, immunizations, and the ordinary work of staying well belong in one practice, because your life is not divided into specialties.
Comprehensive care
From first check-ups to the quiet work of later years, we practise whole-person primary care under one roof.
Thoughtful check-ups, screening, and a clear plan for the year ahead — not a rushed form on a clipboard.
Well-child visits, immunizations, school forms, and the everyday illnesses that arrive at 7 p.m. on a weeknight.
Diabetes, blood pressure, asthma, thyroid, and heart-health follow-up with a physician who already knows you.
Preventive screening, contraception counselling, menopause care, prostate health, and respectful, private conversations.
A safe room for anxiety, low mood, stress, and sleep. We listen first, then build a plan you can actually live with.
Infections, rashes, sprains, and flares. Call us — evening and Saturday hours exist so you do not have to wait until Monday.

★★★★★ Five-star care from first visit to follow-up
I looked for a family doctor for two years. From the first visit I felt known. They kept an evening appointment so I could come after my shift at the mill. I sat in the parking lot afterward and cried — the good kind.
Saturday morning, my son’s ear was on fire. We were seen with such calm kindness. The doctor explained everything so a worried dad could actually understand it. This is the family medicine I thought did not exist anymore.
My mother, my husband, and I all come here now. A private clinic that still feels like a neighbourhood. They remember her name at the desk. Evening hours have quietly changed our whole household.
I had not had a proper physical in a decade. They took the time, asked the right questions, and sent me home with a plan instead of a shrug. Professional, thorough, and genuinely kind.
The staff remember my name. That should not be rare, but it is. Westside feels like the family practice I grew up with — unhurried, warm, and excellent medicine.
Called at 8:05 on a Monday and was seen that evening. If you need a private family clinic where someone actually listens, this is the one. Highest possible recommendation.
